Many of the scratches and swirls on the surface of a vehicle are caused by improper wash techniques. Dirt and grit picked up by your wash mitt or sponge get trapped within the fibers of your wash mitt or sponge. When you dip your wash mitt or sponge back into your bucket to rinse and re-lather, not all of the dirt and grit is released from your wash mitt. As a result, the dirt stays on your wash mitt and you drag the dirt and grit over the surface of your vehicle, creating swirls and fine scratches. The Grit Guard Insert will separate the grit from your wash mitt or sponge, saving every professional or enthusiast time and money.
To properly wash your car, you want to use the two bucket method. With this method, you have two buckets, one designated as your wash water and a second bucket for rinsing your wash mitt. Place one Grit Guard Insert in the bottom of each bucket. After you have rinsed your car with a steady stream of water, dip your wash mitt into your wash water bucket and wash one section of your car. Take care not to overextend the area you are washing. You want to make sure there is enough soap and water coming from your wash mitt to properly encapsulate the dirt and flow it away.
Once you have completed a section, dip your wash mitt into your rinse bucket and simply rub your wash mitt across the Grit Guard. The radial grid surface design will extract the dirt and grit from your wash mitt. The dirt and grit will then settle below the Grit Guard Insert and stay there. After rinsing your wash mitt, dip it into your clean wash bucket and proceed to wash the next section of your car. Follow this pattern all the way around your car. Make sure to start at the top and work your way down and around the car.
With the Grit Guard Insert you do not have to worry about any dirt or grit in your wash bucket. By using the two bucket method with the Grit Guards, you can rest assured just about all of the dirt is sitting below the Grit Guard in your rinse bucket.
The Grit Guard is not a gimmick, it's common sense. When your mitt is in the water, the fibers are fluffed up. When you rub your mitt against the Grit Guard in the water, the fluffed up fibers allow the Grit Guard to extract the dirt, grit and grime. Once dirt settles in the bottom of the bucket, the Grit Guard keeps it there by separating the water into four quadrants, so the water cannot be distrubed.
The Grit Guard has been designed with minimal flat surfaces, so dirt will not settle on the Grit Guard. The four quadrants on the base hold the grid 2.5 inches above the bottom of the bucket and calm the wash water preventing the dirt from getting kicked back up above the Grit Guard Insert. And just in case some dirt does stay on your wash mitt, the Grit Guard at the bottom of your wash bucket will keep any dirt from contaminating your wash water.
A Grit Guard Insert measures 10-1/8 inches in diameter and is solvent resistant and durable. Wash your vehicle right with the two bucket method, and with peace of mind thanks to the Grit Guard Insert!
Alternative Uses: Although the Grit Guard Insert was originally designed for automotive detailing, it has a number of other uses as well.
- Use it to clean paint brushes by running the bristles over the radial grid in a bucket of water or paint thinner.
- Use it to clean parts or drain your oil filter.
- The four quadrants on the base can be used as a grout grid when laying tile.
